Achill Island Greenway

Bladebridge

In close collaboration with Mayo County Council, we are proud to unveil our custom double shelter installations on Achill Island, crafted for one of Ireland’s most exposed and breath-taking landscapes.

Located on the western edge of the country, these shelters were designed to endure the relentless Atlantic elements. Each structure features a full 20-metre wind turbine blade, repurposed from the Barnsmore Wind Farm in Donegal, where it generated renewable energy for over two decades.

Robust yet elegant, these shelters have quickly become iconic landmarks along the Achill Island Greenway.

They offer sheltered picnic seating and benches for cyclists and passers-by, inviting them to pause, rest, and take in sweeping views. The design strikes a careful balance between bold architectural expression and harmony with the rugged coastal surroundings, delivering both visual impact and sustainable value.

These structures not only offer protection and comfort but stand as a testament to the power of circular design, giving new purpose to materials that would otherwise be discarded.
