Rathfarnham

Bladebridge

A Sustainable Landmark for Outdoor Gathering.

In collaboration with South Dublin County Council, we’re proud to unveil our custom Rathfarnham Shelter installation. An innovative pavilion that reimagines outdoor social spaces through the lens of sustainability and design.

Crafted from repurposed 20-metre wind turbine blades, this shelter invites the community to step into the future of outdoor socialising. Designed as the ultimate picnic pavilion, it offers shade, shelter, and a uniquely striking aesthetic, blending functionality with a bold visual identity.

Positioned as both a practical amenity and an iconic landmark, the shelter provides a natural gathering point, instantly recognisable and inviting. At 8 metres long, with an extended overhang to cover parked bicycles, the structure integrates seamlessly into its surroundings.

At its heart, Iroko timber and sections of the original turbine blades form integrated seating and picnic benches, creating a warm, tactile space for rest and connection.

The wind turbines used in this project originated from Barnsmore Wind Farm, where they generated renewable energy for over 20 years. Through the BladeBridge initiative, we’re proud to give these blades a second life, transforming what could have ended up in landfill into long-lasting, elegant structures and furniture.
